Kathmandu: A joint security patrol has commenced in the Korala area along the Nepal-China border in Mustang, which shares its boundary with Tibet, the autonomous region of China. The security personnel from both nations have begun this patrol despite challenging cold conditions.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Chief of the Armed Police Force (APF) 33 Number Company Headquarters, Jomsom, DSP Bheshraj Giri, stated that the primary objective of the patrol is to prevent potential cross-border crimes such as smuggling and poaching, which pose a threat to border security. The joint patrol, which began on Friday, is set to continue throughout the winter season.
The patrolling efforts are concentrated on the Korala border areas, specifically around border pillars numbered 21, 22, 23, and 24 towards Dolpa. The team is composed of security personnel from the Korala-based APF Border Outpost (BOP) and their Chinese counterparts. The joint team includes 10 APF personnel led by BOP In-charge, APF Inspector Arun Bhandari, along with five security personnel from the Chinese side.
The border between Nepal and China is demarcated by border pillars, with those numbered 18 to 23 located towards Mustang, and pillars numbered 25 to 33 situated within the Manang district. Additionally, border pillar number 14 is designated as a transit point and is marked as a no-man’s land.
