Kathmandu: Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, Chen Song, paid a farewell call on Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, at his office in Singha Durbar today. In the meeting, discussions were held on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic and development cooperation, among other issues.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Speaker Ghimire expressed gratitude to Ambassador Song, who is returning to China after successfully completing his term, for his contributions to enhancing Nepal-China bilateral relations. He praised the ambassador’s efforts in expanding economic cooperation and reinforcing ties between the parliaments of both countries.
The meeting also highlighted the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal-China diplomatic relations. Speaker Ghimire noted that the various programs organized by both sides in 2025 have elevated bilateral ties. He reiterated Nepal’s commitment to the One-China principle and assured that no activities against China’s interests would be permitted on Nepali soil.
Further, Speaker Ghimire acknowledged the continuous support from Chinese leadership in helping transform Nepal from a landlocked to a land-linked country. He emphasized the importance of implementing projects under the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’ (BRI) and other development assistance projects promptly.
Ambassador Song emphasized China’s high priority on diplomatic relations with Nepal and noted significant progress in implementing agreements from Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit in 2020. He remarked on the strong people-to-people relations between the two countries but acknowledged that economic relations require further development. He mentioned a recent Nepal-China economic cooperation and investment workshop where many Chinese entrepreneurs expressed interest in investing in Nepal.
