Biratnagar: Central member of the Nepali Congress, Dr Shekhar Koirala, stated that his party is actively preparing for the upcoming election to the House of Representatives (HoR). Dr Koirala discussed the challenges and opportunities facing the Nepali Congress during a dialogue with youths on the topic ‘NC’s journey: past, present and future’ held on Sunday.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr Koirala highlighted that the central committee of the Nepali Congress has already made the decision to proceed with the election. He emphasized that peace and security are essential for conducting a free and fair election. Dr Koirala stressed the need for the return of weapons stolen from police offices and the recapture of prisoners who escaped during the September 8-9 Gen Z movement, stating that the nation must successfully hold the election on the scheduled date.
Dr Koirala further noted that ensuring youth participation in political parties-40 percent at the local level, 30 percent at the provincial level, and 20 percent at the federal level-would be instrumental in reducing corruption and enhancing transparency and accountability within the system. He also underscored the importance of keeping community school teachers away from political activities.
On a separate issue, Dr Koirala accused the government of discriminating against Biratnagar Metropolis in terms of resource allocation, which has led to its relative underdevelopment.
