Mahottari: Daily life in Mahottari district has been adversely affected as a sharp increase in cold has gripped the area for several days. The region has been experiencing dense fog and mist from morning until midday, which has led to a significant drop in temperature and cold winds sweeping through the district.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the cold conditions have caused significant disruptions. Residents like Ashraful Ryan from Matihani-8 have been unable to perform their daily duties due to the harsh weather. “A dense fog forms from morning to midday since last Wednesday. Due to the cold wind, we have not been able to go to our duty either,” Ryan shared.
The southern part of Mahottari has been experiencing these foggy conditions since last Wednesday, while the northern regions, including Bardibas, Aurahi, and Bhangaha, have been affected since last Friday. Laxmi Prasad Kushbaha of Gaushala-10 noted that these areas had been enjoying bright sunshine until the sudden change in weather last Thursday.
The elderly residents are particularly concerned about the rising cold. A septuagenarian man expressed his worries: “This increasing cold has given us a fear that we won’t be able to survive much longer.” The persistent cold wind, coupled with a lack of sunlight, has made daily life challenging.
Impoverished communities, such as the Mushahar, Dom, Halkhor, and Mestar, are facing severe hardships. They resort to burning discarded materials to keep warm. Hemani Sada Mushahar of Bhangaha-4 lamented the lack of firewood and support from authorities, forcing them to rely on makeshift bonfires for warmth.
The weather has also impacted transportation, with dense fog affecting vehicle operations and air services. Janakpur Airport reported that most morning flights have been disrupted due to poor visibility. Public vehicle drivers face increased risks of accidents due to the dense fog, often having to halt their operations.
Overall, the cold wind and persistent fog have made life in Mahottari district increasingly difficult, affecting daily routines and transportation services.
