Banke: Local levels in Banke district have distributed 15,000 cubic feet of firewood to residents to combat the cold.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the local authorities purchased the firewood from the Division Forest Office and distributed it across various wards. The distribution reached the villages of Nepalgunj sub-metropolis, Kohalpur municipality, Janaki rural municipality, and Duduwa rural municipality.
In response to the dropping temperatures, there has been a rising demand for firewood, noted Tanka Gurung, an Information Officer at the Forest Office. Dipendra Shrestha, a focal person for disaster in Nepalgunj sub-metropolis, mentioned that while some wards procured firewood independently, other municipalities submitted request letters seeking assistance.
The District Disaster Management Committee’s Cold Wave Preparedness and Response Plan-2025 estimates that 179,220 individuals from 35,572 households in the district could be impacted by the cold wave this year.
