Kailali: The Rana Tharu community in the Kailali and Kanchanpur districts is celebrating the Khakhadehara festival today. This festival marks the conclusion of the Holi festival, and it holds significant cultural importance for the community.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Khakhadehara festival is observed on the last day of the Holi festival. The Rana Tharu community has a unique tradition of celebrating Holi over eight days, which they categorize into three phases: Jiyudo (alive) Holi, Mareko (dead) Holi, and Khakhadehara. Each phase has its own cultural rituals and significance.
In recognition of this important cultural event, the Sudurpaschim Province Government has declared a public holiday in the districts of Kailali and Kanchanpur. This gesture underscores the importance of preserving and honoring the cultural heritage and traditions of the Rana Tharu community.
