Stakeholders Call for Protection of Trade Union Rights

Kathmandu: The speakers at a programme here today have viewed that trade union rights should not be curtailed.

According to National News Agency Nepal, at a talk programme today on the occasion of the 36th establishment day of Nepal Government Employees’ Organization, the speakers argued that the trade union rights should be safeguarded. The stakeholders’ opinions came out at a time when the government is working to scrap the party-aligned trade unions in bureaucracy.

During the programme, former secretary Gopinath Mainali said that the constitution’s fundamental rights mentions both physical and mental labour, and added that the official trade union should be protected even if the constitution was amended. Chairman of General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions Binod Shrestha, senior advocate Tikaram Bhattarai and other leaders expressed their views on trade unions in a democratic exercise.
