Kathmandu: The leader of the main opposition party, Nepali Congress’ parliamentary party, Bhishma Raj Angdembey, has made it clear that his party will not be stingy in praising positive works of the government. Taking time from the Speaker in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, he stated that he would view the government’s efforts over the 100-day period positively.
According to National News Agency Nepal, MP Angdembey expressed his approval for the government’s actions on issues such as good governance, corruption control, administrative reforms, and service delivery. He emphasized that when the government succeeds, it ultimately benefits the Nepali people and the country. Angdembey further elaborated that the evaluation of a government in a democracy is based on citizens’ experiences and should be rooted in respect for the constitution, accountability to parliament, and public institutions’ credibility.
“Asking questions in a democracy is not opposing, it is a responsibility,” Angdembey remarked. He urged for a common understanding on matters of national importance, stressing the need for national consensus and indicating that the Congress is ready to provide support to strengthen the democratic system and facilitate justified constitutional amendments.
Additionally, Angdembey highlighted the urgency of finding a lasting solution to the squatter problem and proposed that all political and constitutional stakeholders engage in dialogue for drafting the constitution. He also called for a cross-party approach to move forward with constitutional amendments.
A significant portion of his address was dedicated to addressing the elephant problem, where he urged the government to develop an effective plan to manage the issue. He mentioned a tragic incident involving a single elephant attack that resulted in the loss of 25 lives, including four members of the same family. Angdembey demanded immediate implementation of long-term policies to protect citizens’ lives and crops from wild animal attacks, emphasizing the need for an effective rescue mechanism and swift intervention strategies.
