Dumre: With the structures in place to control landslide at Udipur along the Dumre-Besisahar road, vehicular movement has become easier and safer even during the rainy season. The structures were built at a cost of Rs 111.9 million by the federal government.
According to National News Agency Nepal, information officer at the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame Road Planning Office, Navin Bista, stated that micropiles have been constructed along the Marsyangdi River, providing a protective wall on the river bank. Additionally, a 45-metre high and 80-metre long gabion mesh, along with a 300-metre road blacktop and nailing, were constructed in the area previously hit by landslides above the road.
Babulal Shrestha from Besisahar expressed that travel at Udipur has become safer and easier following the landslide control measures. He mentioned, “Last year, we faced severe problems several times during the monsoon. We were panicked over the possible fall of stones from the hills above. But, now we can travel with confidence. The road has improved and there is no fear of landslides.”
Narayan Ghimire, a regular driver on this road, shared his happiness about being able to drive safely at Udipur. He recalled the difficult past when frequent landslides forced vehicles to use alternative routes to reach their destinations every day during the monsoon.
The Dumre-Besisahar road is a major route connecting Lamjung and Manang, and it also facilitates travel to the Annapurna Circuit Trek.
