Kathmandu: The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has shared its recent accomplishments and initiatives from the past week during a media briefing. Hemraj Aryal, spokesperson and joint secretary at OPMCM, outlined the activities undertaken by the office.
According to National News Agency Nepal, one of the key announcements was the approval of the Software Development and Operation Committee (Formation) Order, 2083. This order, sanctioned by the Cabinet on August 19, aims to develop, upgrade, and maintain software for public agencies, enhancing IT-based public service delivery. A six-member committee has been established, led by a secretary at OPMCM, to oversee the Software Development and Operations Centre.
Aryal also highlighted that the Policy and Research Institute (PRI), a public entity under OPMCM, has prepared eight reports on various topics. These reports address issues such as the incorporation of gender issues and domestic violence in school curricula, capacity development of teachers, and the integration of social security systems. The reports have been forwarded to experts for feedback.
Additionally, a draft concept paper has been circulated to all ministries to initiate 65 programs, which will be implemented by OPMCM and federal ministries. The draft is subject to revisions and will be executed by the relevant ministry.
A performance contract was signed last week between Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Ministers, and the Chief Secretary for the current fiscal year. This contract outlines major activities, performance indicators, and monitoring methods, with the Prime Minister set to review progress regularly.
In other developments, Indian Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth met with PM Shah on August 18. A study panel of 12 members has been formed to address issues related to chemical fertilizers, with recommendations for short- and long-term solutions expected.
OPMCM has also issued a circular encouraging government offices to use locally produced goods, aiming to promote Nepali products and support local enterprises. This initiative seeks to reduce imports and boost local employment.
Furthermore, the National Vigilance Centre actively monitored public office compliance, inspecting 29 public bodies in the Kathmandu Valley and identifying 257 employees breaching office hour rules. Disciplinary action has been advised for those in violation.
A thorough examination of transparency in procurement, health insurance, and free medicine distribution is ongoing in various districts of Gandaki Province.
