Kathmandu: National Assembly (NA) members have demanded action against the guilty, expressing sorrow over the murder of three-year-old Garima Chaudhary of Jitpur Simara sub-metropolis-1 after rape.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during the zero hour of the upper house meeting of the Federal Parliament today, members emphasized the need to control violence against children and women, ensure children’s safety, and urged the government and security bodies to take such incidents seriously. Puja Chaudhary called on the government to halt violence against children and women, emphasizing the need for action against those involved in Garima’s rape and murder.
Renu Chand criticized the lack of seriousness shown by security bodies regarding the child’s disappearance, urging the government and security agencies to take stern action against the guilty. In a related issue, Manrupa Sharma requested the government to repatriate the body of Narayan Sarki from Parbat, who died in Dubai while working abroad, and to provide compensation to his family.
Rukmini Koirala advised the government to ensure fair pricing for farmers’ produce, provide security for women, and create employment opportunities for the youth. Meanwhile, Krishna Bahadur Rokaya highlighted the damages caused by floods and landslides in Rolpa and Bajura, urging the government to arrange relief for affected families after evaluating the damages.
Ghana Shyam Rijal brought attention to the peaceful protest led by Dipa Nepali, with the slogan ‘Government, is the room empty’, suggesting that the government resolve the issues through dialogue. Padam Bahadur Pariyar demanded the government fully implement the agreement with the family of Ganesh Nepali, who died following a self-immolation attempt at the Department of Passport, and to declare Ganesh a martyr.
Bishnu Kumari Sapkota urged immediate relief for families displaced by a landslide in Thabang of Rolpa and demanded stern action against those guilty in Garima’s case. Additionally, Bishnu Bahadur Bishwokarma expressed dissatisfaction with the increasing number of staff in ministers’ personal secretariats and called for a reduction.
