Kathmandu: At a time when the Nepali Congress (NC) led by President Gagan Kumar Thapa has initiated the process to hold the 15th general convention of the party, the anti-establishment faction has taken legal action against the convention’s preparation.
According to National News Agency Nepal, on behalf of former NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, a writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court on Friday. The petition demands a halt to the 15th general convention scheduled to take place in a month.
The NC election committee had set the dates for the convention from October 2 to 5 in Kathmandu. In opposition to this decision, the faction led by Deuba approached the court on Friday. They argue that the process for holding the general convention should be paused because the Supreme Court has permitted a review hearing on the legitimacy of the NC leadership, which is still pending.
