Government Advances Postal Service to Modern Courier System


Jakarta:Minister for Information and Communications, Dr. Bikram Timilsina, announced that the government’s initiative to transform the postal service into a government courier service is being effectively implemented, focusing on modernization and citizen-friendliness.



According to National News Agency Nepal, during a philatelic exhibition organized by the Department of Postal Service on the 152nd World Post Day, Dr. Timilsina emphasized the government’s commitment to making postal services accessible to the general public by restructuring them to meet contemporary needs. He highlighted the importance of integrating postal services with modern life while preserving their historical significance, aiming to create a modern, practical, and citizen-centric service.



The Minister pointed out that postal services could serve as a vital means to deliver government services directly to citizens by leveraging the nationwide postal network. New postage stamps were introduced during the event to honor individuals who have contributed significantly to nation-building and global technology development.



The Department released Rs 10 postage stamps featuring images of notable figures such as Bise Nagarchi, Wange Sarki, Kulbir Thapa Magar, and Karna Bahadur Ranamagar. Dr. Timilsina applied the first cancellation mark on these stamps.



Chairperson of the National Dalit Commission, Devraj Bishwakarma, remarked that the issuance of stamps with the images of Nagarchi and Sarki signifies state recognition of the Dalit community’s historical contributions. He noted the ongoing relevance of postal services despite the rapid advancement of information technology.



Communications Secretary Rajendra Kumar Poudel stressed the importance of using postal services as an effective medium for expanding public services, advocating for cooperation and healthy competition with the private sector. Director General of the Department of Postal Service, Man Maya Bhattarai, affirmed the enduring significance of postal services in the technology-driven world.
