Kaligandaki Corridor Transmission Line Restored with Temporary Tower

Accra:Kaligandaki The Dana-Khurkot transmission line, an essential component of the Kaligandaki Corridor with a capacity of 220 KV, has been successfully restored after sustaining damage from flooding and erosion in the region.

According to National News Agency Nepal, a temporary power transmission tower using Canadian technology has been constructed to facilitate emergency electrical supply during such catastrophic events. The floods had destroyed three transmission line towers in Annapurna Rural Municipality-1 Dowa and 6 Dhirchang of Myagdi, leaving 176 megawatts of electricity from seven hydropower facilities in Myagdi and Mustang disconnected from the national grid.

Roshan Khadka, Head of Gandaki Province Grid Branch of Nepal Electricity Authority, confirmed that the line was re-energized at 1030 on Saturday evening after the completion of wire installation through the temporary tower. He noted that the reconnection to the national system was achieved within 20 days following the flood damage, thanks to the efforts of technical personnel from the Nepal Electricity Authority and the Kaligandaki hydropower project.

Sanjay Lohani, assistant director of the authority, detailed that the temporary tower was erected in Aula of Annapurna Rural Municipality-1 Doba, across from the Bhirkate section of the Beni-Jomsom road. The restoration involved more than 20 engineers, a similar number of technicians, and over 50 workers from hydropower projects and divisions in Kaligandaki over the past 15 days.
