Bidur:Following the destruction of two concrete bridges over the Trishuli River in Bidur Municipality-1, Nuwakot, due to the Bhotekoshi flood, a suspension bridge has been constructed to restore essential connectivity in the area.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the bridge, although not fully completed, has been opened to the public to address the urgent needs of local residents. Since the August 26 flood destroyed the previous bridge, residents had to resort to using tuin and zipline systems for crossing the river.
The new bridge has been particularly beneficial for residents of riverside settlements like Trishuli Bazaar, which suffered direct damage from the flood. The operational suspension bridge has notably improved accessibility for local populations, facilitating the transport of relief supplies and rehabilitation materials.
Shailendraraj Pyakurel, President of the Nuwakot Builders’ Association, mentioned that the bridge’s primary structural components were completed, allowing its opening to prioritize the welfare of the local communities. Remaining tasks include installing auxiliary support cables at four locations on each side of the bridge.
Bidur Municipality Mayor Rajan Shrestha highlighted that the destruction of the concrete crossing infrastructure had previously forced residents to use dangerous pathways. The new suspension bridge now enables safer and controlled passenger transfers, replacing the former reliance on tuin and zipline methods.
