State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral
Resources Nasrul Hamid today underscored the need for using more advanced
technology to expand the country’s renewable energy.
“Application of advanced technologies should be increased in the expansion of
renewable energy. But non-agricultural land availability, solar radiation
rates, price of electricity from solar energy is one of the barriers for
expansion of renewable energy in Bangladesh,” he said.
Witnessing a power purchase agreement (PPA) and an implementation agreement
(IA) for 50MW solar power project as the chief guest, the state minister said
a total of 13067.22MW renewable power from 126 projects is underway, of which
3749.07MW from 47 projects in public and private sectors are under
construction.
Besides, 79 projects having generation capacity of 9318.15MW are under
process.
“Collective efforts are necessary for proper implementation of these
projects. Some 8000-10000MW power from renewable sources will come by 2030,”
Nasrul said.
He
said the government has been working for 40 percent clean energy by 2041
and zero carbon emissions by 2050 with setting a target, adding: “Moreover.

development work by preserving the environment.
Power Division, Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), PGCB and Sonagazi
Solar Power Limited (SSPL) have signed purchase agreement (PPA) and
implementation agreement (IA).
Power Division Joint Secretary Nirodh Chandra Mandal, BGCB Secretary Md
Jahangir Azad and Director of Project Development, SSPL Md Mahbubul Hasan
signed the IA deal on behalf of their respective sides while BPDB Secretary
Mohammad Selim Reza and Md Mahbubul Hasan signed the PPA at Mukti Hall of
Bidyut Bhaban here.

Director of ib vogt GmbH Goncalo Aleixo spoke on the occasion, among others.
