Jubo League leader Rubel put on 5-day remand

A court here today put Jubo League leader

Jahirul Islam Rubel on a 5-day remand over allegations of shooting at

protesters during the anti-discrimination student movement on August 5, 2024.

Judge of Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 Faisal Tarek passed the order as

police placed Rubel before the court seeking a 10-day remand for

interrogation.

“Rapid Action Battalion members arrested Rubel, a member of Jubo League’s

Rajshahi city unit, from Cumilla’s Daudkandi area around 12:45am and handed

over him to police. In the morning, Boalia police took him to

the court,” said SM Masud Parvez, officer-in-charge (OC) of Boalia Police

Station.

Six cases have already filed against Rubel including murder,

attempt to murder and looting of weapons under Explosives Prevention Act, he

said, adding: “Jahirul, son of Abdur Razzak of Chandipur area under Rajpara

Police Station in Rajshahi metropolis, has been shown arrested in all of

these cases”.
