Former Chairman of the Council of Ministers and former Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi attended Nepal’s National Day and Constitution Day celebrations in the United States. The event was organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Washington DC on September 19 as per the local time.
In his address to the event, he said the celebrations mark a significant moment in Nepal’s history, reminding the Nepali of the values that have shaped the nation. “I hope that Constitution Day inspires us all to uphold constitutional procedures and the rule of law, guiding us toward a more democratic, inclusive, and prosperous society,” he said.
Nepal’s Constitution enshrines universal values such as democracy, fundamental rights, freedom, human dignity, and human rights, he said. “However, a constitution is only as strong as our commitment to its principles. As we move forward, we will continue to refine and strengthen this supreme law, ensuring it remains dynamic and responsive to the needs of our society.”
Stating that Nepal and the
United States enjoy warm and cordial relations, he said, the US is not only one of the major development partners for Nepal but also an important trade partner, source country for foreign investment, destination for higher education, and tourism.
Regmi further viewed he was amazed by the expansion and strengthening of people-to-people relations between the two countries. “I am confident that as we come together to celebrate each other’s achievements, we also enrich ourselves by learning from our own unique historical experiences,” he said.
Stating that the Constitution is not just a legal framework but a reflection of the values and principles the Nepali hold dear, the former Chair of the Council of Ministers said it is up to all of us to work together to keep those principles alive in our daily lives, ensuring a prosperous future for Nepal.
