Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has announced that the country is ready for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during a discussion with the Election Commission, Minister Kharel noted the progress being made in establishing an election-friendly environment. He emphasized that the Election Commission has been engaging all stakeholders by developing a comprehensive schedule. Kharel expressed the government’s gratitude towards the Election Commission for its efforts to fulfill its role during these challenging times.
Minister Kharel assured that all relevant parties, including the government, security agencies, and political parties, are preparing for the election. He highlighted that over 800,000 voters have registered in a short period, reflecting the public’s readiness to participate in the electoral process.
Addressing the technical and legal aspects of the election, Minister Kharel mentioned that the government has formed a dialogue committee under the Minister for Law to address issues raised by the Election Commission. Additionally, the government has tasked Press Council Nepal and its subordinate bodies with countering misinformation, with the Cyber Bureau and Press Council working to prevent the misuse of social media.
Furthermore, monitoring efforts will ensure adherence to the journalist code of ethics and the election code of conduct, ensuring a fair and transparent election process.
