Kathmandu: Former Energy Minister and Nepali Congress Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat emphasized the critical role of the energy sector in driving the country’s economic prosperity. During an on-site inspection of the 140-MW Tanahun Hydropower Project, which is currently under construction, Dr. Mahat highlighted the importance of maximizing the use of the nation’s water resources to propel the country towards prosperity.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr. Mahat underscored that the country’s economic growth could be significantly bolstered by exporting electricity, which in turn would support industrial development. He stressed the urgency of completing the hydropower project on schedule to achieve energy self-reliance. Additionally, he advocated for the adoption of electric vehicles as a strategy to reduce the import of petroleum products, thereby enhancing energy sustainability.
During his visit, Dr. Mahat also took time to inspect the project’s powerhouse. He was briefed by Project Chief Shyamji Bhandari on the progress made so far, reinforcing the commitment to ensuring the project’s timely completion to meet the nation’s energy needs.
