Kathmandu: Earthquake-resistant and well-equipped buildings have been constructed at two schools in Dhanusha, thanks to the financial assistance from the Government of Japan. These new facilities aim to enhance the educational environment for students by addressing the issues caused by previously dilapidated school structures.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the school buildings were constructed under the Education Project, a collaborative effort between Plan International Nepal and Aasaman Nepal (ASN). The Project Office reported that a building at Mudiva Basic School in Bideha Municipality-5 was constructed at a cost of Rs 9.4 million, while another building at Shankar Secondary School in Janaknandini Rural Municipality-1 cost Rs 12.5 million. These structures are designed to be disability-friendly, each featuring two floors, four classrooms, five toilets, and equipped with drinking water tanks and taps.
Ravi Shankar Pandit, Plan Nepal’s Eastern Regional Chief, highlighted that the old school buildings were in poor condition, presenting challenges to the children’s education. To address this, the well-equipped new buildings were constructed and handed over to the schools.
A team of heads and representatives from governmental and non-governmental organizations, led by Rajanandan Mandal, head of the District Coordination Committee of Dhanusha, inspected the newly-constructed school buildings. Deputy Head Sangita Thakur also participated in the inspection. Following the visit, a meeting of Plan International’s District Project Advisory Committee took place, where Pandit and Sanjay Paswan from ASN discussed their work and achievements in the areas of children’s welfare, gender equality, and physical infrastructure.
Mandal emphasized the importance of non-governmental organizations effectively promoting education, health, sanitation, and awareness programs in coordination with the municipality. Plan International Nepal, active in the country since 1978, continues its efforts in social development and awareness across 13 districts, including four districts in the Madhesh Province, through partnerships with local organizations.
