Kathmandu: The Election Commission of Nepal (ECN) has granted authorization to 31 organizations to observe the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) elections, scheduled for March 5, 2026. This decision comes as part of the ECN’s efforts to ensure transparent and fair electoral processes.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the ECN approved 27 national and 4 international organizations to monitor the elections. The Commission, which is responsible for overseeing the conduct of elections in Nepal, had previously invited applications from interested organizations willing to observe the HoR elections.
Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, the Joint-Secretary and Spokesperson of the Commission, stated that a total of 44 applications were received from national organizations and five from international entities. Bhattarai explained that only those organizations that met the criteria and completed the procedures outlined in the Election Observations Guidelines-2079 BS were granted permission.
Organizations that failed to submit the necessary documents and comply with the required procedures have been given a five-day window to fulfill these obligations. Bhattarai mentioned that the Commission would review these pending applications and make decisions accordingly.
It is noteworthy that the interim government, led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, was formed following the Gen-Z movement in early September. This government is tasked with conducting the parliamentary elections on the designated date next year.
