Kathmandu: Minister for Physical Infrastructures and Transport, Kulman Ghising, has highlighted that faulty contracts have adversely impacted the economy and employment. He made these remarks during a program organized by the Nepal Infrastructures Journalists’ Society.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Minister Ghising criticized contractors for disregarding government regulations in construction projects, which has led to significant financial losses for the country. He emphasized the importance of proper contract management to bolster the national economy, noting that Nepal’s laws mandate that no construction work can proceed without a contract.
Minister Ghising also pointed out issues on the government’s end, particularly the prolonged delays in payment, which further exacerbate the problem. He proposed the idea of organizing a contractors’ summit as an alternative to investment summits to foster a better construction environment.
During the event, infrastructure expert and former secretary, Arjun Jung Thapa, presented insights on the government’s policy regarding contract termination and its repercussions.
