Kathmandu: The government has announced public holidays nationwide on Sunday and Monday (October 5 and 6), except for disaster management and most essential services, in view of the increased risks of monsoon-related disasters.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notice stating that the decision was made due to the heightened risk of natural disasters amid ongoing rains, which could potentially disrupt road and air services, affecting people’s mobility. The notice also highlighted the risk of loss of life from such disasters.
The Ministry reported being updated by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority about forecasts of heavy to very heavy rainfall in various parts of the country from today until October 6. The Ministry has urged the public to take special precautions against the increased risk of potential adversity.
