Govinda Biyogi Journalism Award Celebrates Journalism Excellence in Nepal


Nuwakot: The ‘Govinda Biyogi Journalism Award-2082’ and the ‘Govinda Biyogi Special Journalism Award 2082′ were recently awarded by Samapadak Samaj Nepal (Editors’ Society Nepal) in honor of its founding chairman and celebrated journalist Govinda Biyogi.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the awards were presented during a ceremony in Shivapuri Rural Municipality-7, Suirechaur, Nuwakot, commemorating Biyogi’s 20th Memorial Day. Former President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav officiated the event, where Dr. Jagat Nepal, Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, was honored with the ‘Govinda Biyogi Journalism Award-2082’. This award, which acknowledges outstanding contributions to the field of journalism, includes a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a certificate of honor.



In addition, the ‘Govinda Biyogi Special Journalism Award’ recognized journalist Chandani Hamal from Gorkhapatra Daily and columnist Rajendra Manandhar from the weekly ‘Shukrava: Ya Tansapau’. Hamal was acknowledged for her impactful work on environmental protection and climate change mitigation, while Manandhar was praised for his contributions to journalism in the Nepal Bhasa language. This special award includes a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and a certificate of honor.



At the same event, former President Dr. Yadav also presented the ‘Editors Society Nepal Honor’ to veteran journalists Sharadchandra Wasti and Sudarshan Acharya, underscoring their significant contributions to the journalism field. The ceremony, led by society President Puru Risal, saw Dr. Yadav emphasize the critical role of journalism in strengthening democracy, reflecting on Biyogi’s legacy and his efforts in supporting democratic processes through journalism.
