Kathmandu: The Home Ministry has issued directives to all district administration offices to ensure that vehicles stranded on various highways reach their destinations safely, taking into account the prevailing weather and road conditions.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Ministry sent a circular to all chief district officers, urging them to coordinate with local levels and organizations to provide food for passengers as needed. The directives also emphasize the safe passage of ambulances and the urgent transport of stranded pregnant women to birthing centers. Additionally, measures are to be taken to relocate residents from areas susceptible to landslides and floods to safer locations, such as schools and open spaces.
Nishan Raj Gautam, Under-Secretary at the Ministry, stated that arrangements should be made for passengers returning from airports due to flight cancellations caused by adverse weather. This includes coordination with transport entrepreneurs and district administration offices. The Ministry also advised contacting the Peace Security and Crime Control Section for immediate helicopter rescues if necessary due to floods and landslides.
The circular further instructed the chief district officer and security chiefs in districts highly vulnerable to landslides, floods, and inundation to remain on duty round the clock, given the adverse weather conditions.
