HoR Meeting Stalled Amidst Opposition Obstruction Over Visa Scam Investigation

Kathmandu: The meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) has been delayed as scheduled proceedings have yet to commence. An agenda was set for a session at 1.00 pm, but the meeting has not been convened.

According to National News Agency Nepal, the delay is attributed to opposition parties blocking Parliament’s operations. They are demanding the creation of a parliamentary or judicial inquiry committee to look into allegations of irregularities, corruption, and human trafficking linked to a visit visa scam.

The ruling parties, Nepali Congress and CPN (UML), have resisted forming such a committee, resulting in the disruption of the meeting on Tuesday. HoR member Madhav Sapkota highlighted that the deadlock stems from the absence of consensus between the ruling and opposition factions on this issue.

Sapkota further noted that the opposition insists on allowing the Home Minister to address the House and make an announcement regarding the formation of the inquiry committee.
