JS adopts obituary motion over death of three sitting lawmakers

SANGSAD BHABAN, Jatiya Sangsad on Sunday unanimously

adopted a condolence motion expressing profound shock at the demise of three

ruling party lawmakers of the eleventh Jatiya Sangsad and other distinguished

personalities.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the condolence motion immediately

after beginning of the 25th session of the eleventh parliament, following a

brief discussion by the lawmakers.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also leader of the House, took part in the

discussion.

The MPs described the three deceased lawmakers valiant freedom fighter and

noted politician AKM Shahjahan Kamal of Lakhipur-3, lawmaker of Patuakhali-1

M Shahjahan Mia and M Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, MP, of Brahmanbaria-2 as the

great soldiers of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and

said they will remain alive in the hearts of the people.

Participating in the discussion, Opposition Jatiya Party lawmaker Mashiur

Rahman Ranga of Rangpur-1 said, “We have lost more than 31 lawmakers

including three sitting lawmakers who had contributed a lot for the ruling

Awami Leauge.”

“Valiant freedom fighter and former Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister AKM

Shahjahan Kamal who participated in the liberation war in Noakhali and

Lakhipur districts in 1971 also led a mass movement protesting the

assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members on

August 15 in 1975,” said another ruling party lawmaker Sheikh Fazlul Karim

Selim of Gopalganj-2.

Paying rich tribute to these three deceased lawmakers , senior ruling party

lawmaker Amir Hossain Amu of Jhalokhati-2 said former minister AKM Shahjahan

Kamal, Mohammad Shahjahan Mia and M Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan sacrificed a lot for

the ruling Awami League.

The Prime Minister in her address said these three lawmakers, who always

played a bold role in every movement and struggle, were very much popular and

dedicated to the party.

Recalling their role, the PM said they had always worked for the interest of

the people. She expressed deep shock at the death of the lawmakers.

The lawmakers also recalled the contribution of valiant freedom fighter and

former lawmaker Mahmudur Rahman of Noakhali-3, former deputy finance minister

AFM Fakhrul Islam Munshi, former State Minister for food and Disaster

Management Ebadur Rahman Chowdhury, Eushey Padak recipient and Poet Asad

Chowhdury, dance artist Jinat Barkatullah, Ferdou Ara Pakhi, sister of Road

Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Akhter Nesa, mother of Iqbal

Hossain Sanbuj MP of Gazipur-3 and valiant freedom fighter warrant officer

(retd.) M Harun-Ur-Rashid.

The parliament also expressed deep shock and condolence over the death of

several thousand people and innocent children due to recent heinous attack by

the Israeli occupation forces at different places in Palestine and Gaza.

Ruling Awami League lawmakers Nuruddin Chowdhury Nayan of Lakhipur -3, Anwar

Hosain Khan of Lakhipur-1, Muhibur Rahman of Patuakhali-4, Qazi Kaniz

Sultana, A S M Feroz of Patuakhali-5 and Jatiya Party lawmaker Pir Fazlur

Rahman of Sunamganj-4, among others, spoke.

Later, one minute silence was observed by the parliamentarians. A munajat was offered by

Hafez Ruhul Amin Madani, MP, of Mymensingh-7 seeking eternal peace of the departed souls

before adjournment of the parliament.
