KMC Intensifies Market Monitoring Amid Festival Season

Kathmandu: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has accelerated its market monitoring efforts during the festival period. This initiative aims to ensure compliance with hygiene and quality standards among businesses.

According to National News Agency Nepal, KMC and the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control have commenced monitoring activities. During the inspection of small hotels and restaurants in New Baneshwor, the joint team discovered that most establishments were not adhering to the required standards, as reported by KMC.

Nur Nidhi Neupane, the Departmental Chief of KMC Agriculture and Livestock Department, stated that directives have been issued to businesses operating illegally, instructing them to comply with regulations. Neupane emphasized that legal action will be taken against those who fail to adhere to these directives.

Neupane further noted that entrepreneurs have the responsibility to maintain hygiene, as negligence could lead to the spread of various diseases. Santosh Giri, KMC Food Hygiene and Quality Programme Advisor, highlighted that KMC is prioritizing empowerment, market monitoring, and regulation.

Giri reiterated that KMC will enforce actions against businesses that do not meet the standards and continue operations without following the directives.
