Kathmandu: The lawmakers have demanded to ensure market for food items produced by the farmers. In a discussion on the government’s annual policy and programme for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 BS in the House of Representatives meeting today, they demanded market guarantee to make the country self-reliant in agriculture.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Sushila Shrestha highlighted the positive inclusion of expanding online services in government policies but emphasized the need for effective implementation to ensure markets for farmers. Meanwhile, Ram Prakash Chaudhary expressed concerns over the ambitious nature of the policy document, which he felt did not adequately address farmers’ needs for timely irrigation and fertilizers.
Lawmaker Yogendra Mandal pointed out the challenges of achieving self-reliance in agriculture due to inadequate irrigation systems and delays in fertilizer availability. Pariyar, another lawmaker, noted that while the policy had some new elements, certain aspects were repetitive, making its implementation challenging. He stressed the importance of reflecting positive elements in the next fiscal year’s budget and emphasized the need for consensus on economic and social policies for national prosperity.
Kaluram Rai acknowledged the refinement in the policies and advocated for effective implementation of accessible infrastructure for persons with disabilities. Sanjay Kumar Gautam noted the inclusion of new and objective issues in the revised policies. Sarita Bhusal supported the policies, citing their potential to inspire hope and promote inclusive growth through initiatives like the green road campaign and youth-targeted start-ups.
