Kathmandu: Nepali Congress leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said he was bridging the party’s seniors and young generations. He lamented that his long-standing advocacy for incorporating the youths into the state mainstream both within the party and beyond had gone unheard, leading to the current developments. Dr Koirala said he has been demanding 20 percent youth participation at the central level, 30 percent at the provincial level, and 40 percent at the local level since the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Dr Koirala, speaking at a meeting with office bearers of the Democratic Fighters’ Association Central Committee on Friday, said the contributions of such fighters to the country’s democratic movement would always be remembered. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging the efforts of those who have shaped the party’s history.
Dr Koirala further expressed concerns over what he termed as “sheer ideological deviation” within the party. He called for a reconstruction of values, norms, dedication, and integration within the party, which he believes has been a cornerstone of its foundation, built on the contributions of hundreds of fighters and youths.
