Bhaktapur: Leaders of major political parties have emphasized that conducting elections in a timely, free, and fearless manner is crucial to maintaining the country’s constitutional trajectory. They articulated these views during the inaugural session of the CPN (UML)’s 11th national congress held in Bhaktapur.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Nepali Congress Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka highlighted the government’s and the Election Commission’s responsibility to ensure a conducive environment for the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election. He stressed the need for coordination and cooperation among all political parties, the government, and the Election Commission to achieve this goal.
Khadka also pointed out that establishing a situation conducive to law and order and reassuring citizens about their voting rights falls under the government’s purview. Similarly, Nepali Communist Party leader Dev Prasad Gurung underscored the importance of protecting the constitution, describing it as the major task at present. He called for the unification of all communist forces to tackle the country’s current challenges.
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti also addressed the event, advocating for a positive role from all parties to ensure the timely conduct of the elections, which he sees as essential to resolving the nation’s political transition. Burlakoti reiterated that timely elections are vital for steering democracy in the right direction and urged national political parties to adopt a positive stance to facilitate this process.
