A programme entitled ‘Nepali language and philosophy’, jointly organized here by the Nepal Academy and Nepali Janakalyan Samiti on the occasion of 211th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, concluded.
The participants of the programme stressed on the protection and promotion of Nepali language as it is the medium to unite Nepalis who have reached different countries of the world.
Minister for Food and Industry of West Bengal Anup Rai said that the local roads have been named after Bhanubhakta Acharya in recognition of his contributions in connecting all Nepali speakers through Nepali language.
Noting that Nepal and India share cordial relations not only at the government level but also at the people’s level, he said India and Nepal are also close through language and literature.
Acting Consul General at the Consulate General of Nepal in Kolkata, Janak Raj Bhatta said Adikavi’s contributions to the field of Nepali language and literature were unforgettable.
Also speaking on the occasion, memb
er-secretary of the Academy Dhan Prasad Subedi said Nepali language was ranked 59th in the list of most spoken languages. He stressed the need of starting Nepali teaching in educational institutions of different countries of the world.
On the occasion, Nepalis living in Kolkata showcased art, culture, costumes and original culture of the motherland and presented songs in Nepali, Bengali and Hindi.
