Pokhara: A Migrant Resource Centre (MRC) has been established in the District Administration Office (DAO) Kaski, aiming to provide counselling services and facilitate potential migrants for their foreign labour migration. The initiative is supported by the Pokhara Metropolitan City, which invested Rs 1.6 million in setting up the centre.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) describes the MRC as a central point for information and orientation to key services, acting as a hub for coordinating awareness-raising activities. It connects potential migrants, returnees, and their families to various services related to safe migration, including free skills training, legal aid, psychosocial counselling, and financial literacy classes.
Dhanraj Acharya, Mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, stated that the MRC will offer information on safe migration, counselling, and legal assistance. He highlighted that the centre is designed to provide guidance on work safety, free training recommendations for potential migrants, and legal support for those facing difficulties.
The government has collaborated with UN agencies and development partners to establish the MRC in Nepal, further enhancing its role as a vital resource for individuals involved in migration processes.
