Kathmandu: This year’s ‘Dandapani-Nanda Kumari Arjyal Memorial National Award’ is set to be conferred on noted rights activist Mohana Ansari. An executive committee meeting of the Dandapani Arjyal Memorial Centre, presided over by its chair Ishwor Chandra Baniya, decided on February 23 to honor Ansari with this prestigious award.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the award ceremony is scheduled for March 1, as announced by the Centre’s general secretary Kapilchandra Khanal. The award includes a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The award was established in memory of education activist, historian, and philanthropist Dandapani Arjyal and his spouse Nanda Kumari. Dandapani was born in 1963 BS in Gorkha.
The Dandapani-Nanda Kumari Arjyal Memorial National Award is given to individuals who have made significant national contributions. Previous recipients include historian Gyanmani Nepal, litterateur Madanmani Dikshit, culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi, historians Tulasi Ram Baidhya and Dinesh Raj Panta, litterateur Dr. Modnath Pashrit, educationalist Prof. Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, and political analyst Prof. Dr. Surendra KC.
