Kathmandu: Nepali Congress leader and former minister Pradeep Paudel has emphasized the need for the party to hold its general convention before the upcoming House of Representatives (HoR) election scheduled for March 5. Paudel insists that the Nepali Congress (NC) must approach the elections with a renewed leadership.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during an interaction with media persons, Paudel highlighted that the party’s future should be steered by new leadership, aligning with the spirit of the Gen Z movement. He stated that a dynamic party structure is crucial at this juncture.
The NC has announced its plan to conduct the 15th general convention from January 10-14, 2026, in Kathmandu, the federal capital. Paudel noted that the timing of the elections is crucial, as demanded by the Gen Z movement. He emphasized that the NC does not favor reinstating the House of Representatives over holding elections. Moreover, he urged the government to ensure that the HoR elections are conducted in a free and fair environment.
Paudel reiterated that the party must not overlook the significance of the general convention before the HoR elections. He reminded that party President Deuba has already instructed office bearers and leaders to adhere to the general convention schedule, aiming to transition party leadership smoothly.
Paudel also announced his intention to run for the position of General Secretary in the forthcoming 15th general convention.
