Kathmandu: Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, announced plans to form a unified party, drawing lessons from past mistakes, during a unity assembly held in Birendranagar. He emphasized the necessity of making the NCP the leading party with enthusiastic participation from leaders and activists, expressing gratitude for the support from the people of Karnali.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Dahal stressed the importance of correcting past weaknesses through a coalition of over 14 parties. He expressed confidence that the participation witnessed in unity meetings across various parts of the country would propel the campaign to new heights. Recalling the commencement of unity discussions with party Joint Coordinator Madhav Nepal in 1984/85, Dahal noted that these discussions persisted even during the armed conflict.
Dahal highlighted the significance of the 12-point accord, which was only possible after agreements between the UML and Maoists, marking a 40-year-long effort towards unity. He described Karnali as the cradle of Nepali civilization and a treasure trove of resources, committing to prioritize the area’s development and create opportunities for young people abroad to return home.
Joint Coordinator Madhav Nepal also addressed the assembly, emphasizing the political progress achieved by uniting different parties, which has invigorated everyone involved. He asserted that the NCP would be established as a party dedicated to serving the interests of the people and the country, advocating for democracy and republicanism to ensure the people’s ownership of the nation.
Nepal stated, “We have always stood in the right place at every important moment of the country. To make the people the owners of the country, democracy and republicanism are needed. Therefore, we are working to establish the Nepali party as a patriotic party that upholds the country’s independence and sovereignty.”
