Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly appointed Vice-Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Dr. Prakash Kumar Shrestha, and member Prof. Dr. Suniti Shrestha (Hada). The ceremony, marking a significant appointment in Nepal’s governance, took place today before the Head of the Government at a specially organized event.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the cabinet meeting held on December 15 led to the appointment of the two individuals to the vacant positions of NPC Vice-chair and member, respectively. The event was graced by notable figures including the member of the Commission and Chief Secretary of the government of Nepal, Suman Raj Aryal, Secretary at the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Raj Kumar Shrestha, and Secretary of the Commission, Rabi Lal Pant, among other high-ranking government officials.
During the ceremony, PM Karki extended her congratulations and best wishes to the newly appointed Vice-Chairperson and member, urging them to develop action plans that reflect the country’s current needs and align with the aspirations of the Gen-Z youths. “We have entrusted you with this responsibility as experts. You are aware of the country’s situation. You should take further steps by taking into account this situation,” she emphasized.
The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of aligning the National Planning Commission’s plans and programmes with the spirit of the movement driven by Gen-Z youths advocating for change. It is pertinent to mention that the interim government, led by Karki, was established following the Gen-Z uprising on September 8 and 9, with a mandate to conduct elections for the House of Representatives on March 5, 2026.
