Kathmandu: The opposition parties have disrupted the meeting of the National Assembly, the upper house of the Federal Parliament, today. Opposition lawmakers protested the dismissal of Kulman Ghising, Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), by interrupting the proceedings.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the opposition demanded that the Prime Minister provide an explanation to the Assembly regarding the reasons behind Ghising’s removal. Kulman Ghising, known for his significant contribution in eliminating load shedding in Nepal, had only four months left in his term at NEA.
Lawmaker Gopi Bahadur Sarki Achhami expressed his concerns during the meeting, questioning the urgency behind Ghising’s dismissal. “Kulman Ghising’s remaining service period in NEA was only four months. What was the compulsion of removing Ghising when only four months before the termination of his term,” Achhami stated, implying that Ghising’s removal was a political maneuver rather than a necessity.
Achhami further accused the government of dismissing Ghising as a ‘reward’ for his effective leadership in resolving the country’s electricity crisis. The disruption highlights the ongoing tension between the government and opposition parties over administrative decisions impacting national progress.
