Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki has emphasized the significance of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) as a pivotal forum for fostering understanding and strengthening mutual trust among member nations. This platform, according to her, plays a crucial role in advancing initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of life in the South Asian region.
According to National News Agency Nepal, in a message delivered on the occasion of the 41st SAARC Charter Day, Prime Minister Karki extended her greetings and best wishes to the governments and peoples of all SAARC Member States. She reflected on the vision of the founding leaders over four decades ago, who aspired for a South Asia united by peace, stability, and shared prosperity. Their collective foresight led to the establishment of SAARC, which is dedicated to advancing regional cooperation, strengthening bonds of friendship, and improving the well-being of the people in the region.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the SAARC Charter remains a guiding force in deepening collective self-reliance, nurturing a common regional identity, and jointly tackling complex challenges such as food and energy security, climate change, digital divides, and poverty reduction. She called for a renewed commitment to revitalize SAARC to make it more dynamic, inclusive, and action-oriented.
“As the current Chair, Nepal reiterates its steadfast commitment to working closely with all Member States in the spirit of amity, solidarity, and consensus, the very principles enshrined in the SAARC Charter,” Prime Minister Karki stated. She also mentioned that through collective efforts, SAARC can accelerate progress towards shared development goals and deliver tangible benefits to the peoples of South Asia.
