Bangkok: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is currently on a five-day official visit to Thailand, addressed an event hosted by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) today, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to ensure a secure and prosperous future for all of humanity.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the Prime Minister highlighted that the Government of Nepal is committed to promoting human happiness, prosperity, security, and self-dignity. He reiterated the government’s motto, “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali,” as the national aspiration, stating that the greatest achievement is human happiness through the fulfillment of aspirations.
Prime Minister Oli called for collaborative efforts at national, regional, and global levels to tackle climate change, which he described as a common and global concern. The event was attended by teachers and students from Nepal at AIT, and the Prime Minister expressed hope that AIT graduates would significantly contribute to Nepal’s development, particularly in sectors like hydropower.
Nepal’s ambassador to Thailand, Dhan Bahadur Oli, noted that Nepali students form the fourth largest group of international students at AIT. Cooperation with AIT is a priority for the Nepalese Embassy, he added. Presently, 181 Nepali students are studying at AIT, and 1,795 Nepalis have graduated from the institute. Seven Nepalis, including three members on the Board of Trustees, are part of the faculty.
The Prime Minister was welcomed by AIT President Pai-Chi Li. His visit marks the first by a Nepalese head of government to Thailand at the invitation of Thai counterpart Paetongtarn Shinawatra. PM Oli is scheduled to attend the sixth Summit of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) and engage in bilateral talks with leaders from member states on the summit’s sidelines.
His entourage includes his spouse Radhika Shakya, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor to Prime Minister Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic and Development Advisor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, Government Chief Secretary Eaknarayan Aryal, and Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, among others.
