President Thanks EC for Conducting Free and Fearless HoR Elections


Kathmandu: President Ramchandra Paudel has expressed gratitude to the Election Commission (EC) for their efforts in conducting the House of Representatives (HoR) elections in a free, fair, impartial, credible, and fearless manner amid challenging circumstances.



According to National News Agency Nepal, the President made these remarks on Thursday upon receiving the Report of House of Representatives Elections, 2082, which took place on March 5. During the report submission, Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari provided an overview of the election results and highlighted the significant tasks performed in election management.



The election results indicated that 164 candidates from six political parties, along with an independent candidate, secured HoR seats through the first-past-the-post election system. Additionally, 110 candidates from six political parties were elected under the proportional representation system.



The EC reported that out of the total 275 HoR members, 179 are men, and 96 are women. The demographic composition of the elected members includes 21.01 percent Adibasi/Janajati, 49.09 percent Khas/Arya, 3.27 percent Tharu, 6.18 percent Dalit, 16.73 percent Madhesi, and 3.64 percent Muslim representatives, as stated by EC Spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
