Kathmandu: The Supreme Court (SC) has announced its decision to resume regular hearings and the registration of writ petitions of habeas corpus starting from September 14. This decision follows an emergency meeting of the Full Court of the SC held on Thursday, which set the date for resuming the court’s business.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Chief Justice Prakashman Sing Raut issued a press release after the meeting, emphasizing the court’s commitment to address the concerns of the general public seeking justice. The Chief Justice assured that the court proceedings would be resumed as early as possible, reflecting the judiciary’s dedication to upholding the citizens’ fundamental rights.
Chief Justice Raut reaffirmed his commitment to the constitutional responsibility entrusted to the judiciary, ensuring citizens’ access to justice even amid challenging circumstances. He also highlighted the significant loss suffered by the judiciary, noting that critical documents of Nepal’s judicial history were nearly destroyed due to a recent fire and arson incident, which he described as an unimaginable loss.
