Sankhuwasabha: Six members of a family from Makalu rural municipality-2 in Sankhuwasabha have successfully climbed Mt Makalu, aiming to set a new record on the world’s fifth-highest mountain.
According to National News Agency Nepal, the expedition team led by Muktu Lakpa Sherpa saw Dingma Ongju Sherpa’s four sons, a daughter, and a grandson reach the summit of the 8,485-meter mountain on May 9. The climbers who achieved this feat include Muktu Sherpa, his brothers Ngima Dorchi Sherpa, Ang Di Sherpa, and Pechhumbe Sherpa, as well as his sister Pasang Sherpa and his grandson Anima Sherpa.
Muktu Sherpa claimed that their family has established a new record for the most siblings to ascend Mt Makalu. Pasang Sherpa also noted that her 23-year-old niece, Anima, is potentially the youngest person to have climbed Mt Makalu.
The climbers and their family have been honored by the rural municipality, Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Sankhuwasabha district, and Sherpa Association for this remarkable accomplishment.
