Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sushila Karki felicitated social worker Anjali Maskey in recognition of her philanthropic activities. Prime Minister Karki invited Maskey to her official residence in Baluwatar and honoured her by donning a shawl.
According to National News Agency Nepal, during a brief conversation, Prime Minister Karki expressed her long-standing desire to meet Maskey, having heard of her selfless social work over the years. “I had a desire to meet you once, and today I fulfilled it,” she said. The Prime Minister also shared that she felt honored herself with the opportunity to recognize Maskey’s inspiring deeds.
Maskey, a resident of Tahachal, Kathmandu, is well-known for her unique contribution during the Tihar festival. She applies tika to brothers who do not have sisters and who are unable to meet them on the day of Bhai Tika. She has been performing this act voluntarily, mostly at the historical Kasthamandap, for the past 27 years.
Additionally, Maskey has contributed to society by arranging free food for the homeless and needy patients and their relatives at Bir Hospital. She has also been managing the collective fast at Kasthamandap. “I do not do these works with any expectations from anyone and I do whatever I can at my own expense,” Maskey, who is 82 years old, stated according to Prime Minister’s Press Coordinator Ram Bahadur Rawal.
Maskey also expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Karki for taking charge of the state of affairs of the country during difficult circumstances. The event was attended by Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel, Minister for Health and Population Sudha Gautam, Chief Advisor to the Prime Minister Ajay Bhadra Khanal, and Chief Personal Secretary to the Prime Minister Adarsh Kumar Shrestha.
