UML Plans Grand Festivities for Republic Day

Lalitpur: The ruling CPN UML has announced plans to celebrate Republic Day as a festival. UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel shared that the decision was made during a secretariat meeting at the party’s central office in Lalitpur. The celebration is set for Jestha 15 (May 29).

According to National News Agency Nepal, Pokhrel emphasized that Republic Day warrants a festival-like celebration due to its significance in marking the establishment of a federal democratic republic, achieved after years of sacrifice. The meeting called for active participation from all sectors in the celebration. The party has also instructed its committees outside the Kathmandu Valley to organize special programs at the municipal level.

In the Kathmandu Valley, the party’s committee will hold a cultural program in collaboration with the Nepal People’s Cultural Federation. The party office will handle the necessary coordination for the cultural procession. Pokhrel reiterated that the party’s focus is on strengthening the republic, a system of popular sovereignty that reflects the people’s aspiration for change. He affirmed that UML would oppose any actions against people’s sovereignty.

“The meeting has concluded that we must make the republic stronger and more resilient. The party’s focus is on protecting people’s rights, safeguarding the achievements, and celebrating the republic in a grand manner,” stated General Secretary Pokhrel.
