Kathmandu: Nepali Congress leader and former Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula has emphasized the need for amending the constitution with the consensus of all parties. Highlighting the completion of ten years since the constitution’s promulgation, Sitaula called for a review of all state systems.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Sitaula, in a discussion with journalists, stated that the constitution’s amendment would only be feasible with the agreement of the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML). He underscored the necessity of gaining consent from the House of Representatives, the National Assembly, and the provincial government for any constitutional changes.
Lawmaker Sitaula stressed the importance of state machinery functioning with integrity, focusing on good governance, service delivery, and development to mitigate growing public discontent. He urged political parties to manage their affairs systematically and uphold internal democracy, ensuring the voices of the opposition are heard in a democratic setup.
He further asserted that political leaders have a responsibility to strengthen the federal democratic republican system by fulfilling their duties diligently. Sitaula also noted that the Home Minister need not resign over matters under investigation by the constitutional body.
Sitaula mentioned the possibility of the Nepali Congress holding its general convention in Mangsir of the year 2083 BS. He expressed the opinion that parliamentary discussions should consider the referendum and the establishment of a Hindu state while reiterating that the monarchy would not be reinstated.
