Rasuwagadhi: As many as 485 persons displaced after a flash flood at Rasuwagadhi, the Nepal-China border, have been evacuated. They were shifted to safe places with the help of the Armed Police Force (APF), who opened a track to facilitate the evacuation process.
According to National News Agency Nepal, Co-Spokesperson at APF, Shailendra Thapa, informed that a makeshift route was constructed after the complete closure of the Rasuwagadhi-Syafrubenshi road section due to the Lhende stream flooding. The security personnel also moved two containers and an electric vehicle parked in the yard of the Customs Office to a safe location.
The flood, which occurred early Tuesday morning, left 20 people missing, including 14 Nepalis-three of whom are security personnel-and six Chinese nationals. The Miteri Pul, the Nepal-China border bridge, was washed away by the flooding, which has resulted in the complete closure of the border point between the two countries.
Meanwhile, APF has indicated that security forces are on standby around the clock in anticipation of possible flooding in the Kathmandu Valley. About 400 APF personnel are prepared with necessary rescue materials, Spokesperson Thapa added.
