9th China-South Asia Exhibition Commences in Kunming

Kunming: The 9th China-South Asia exhibition began in Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province in China, bringing together businesspersons from over 60 countries, including those from South and Southeast Asia. The event is organized by the Commerce Ministry of China and Yunnan Province, aiming to foster cooperation in trade, science and technology, energy, education, health, and culture.

According to National News Agency Nepal, there are 17 pavilions representing approximately 120 Nepali businesspersons showcasing handicraft items, Buddha idols, tea, and coffee, among other products. The exhibition is held under the theme ‘solidarity and coordination for common development.’

During the inaugural session, prominent speakers including CCP standing committee member Wing Ming and Governor of Yunnan Province Wang Yugo, emphasized the importance of cooperation among South and Southeast Asian countries to achieve peace and prosperity. Nepali Ambassador to China, Krishna Prasad Oli, highlighted the potential of South and Southeast Asia for development through collaboration in environment conservation, infrastructure, and economic reforms.

Oli also reminded participants of Nepal’s significant international engagement through the Sagarmatha Sambaad and noted the historic and close ties between Nepal and China, which are set to strengthen further with special programs marking 70 years of diplomatic relations.

Pashmina entrepreneur Janak Raj Pande from Thamel, Kathmandu, mentioned that the number of Nepali stalls has increased by 40 compared to the previous year. However, he noted that some businesspersons could not secure a place due to time constraints and the delayed transport of goods for display.
