BNP Demands Implementation of Teesta Master Plan


Rajshahi: BNP held a rally at Rajarhat upazila in the district today demanding implementation of Teesta Master Plan to ensure the sustainable and equitable use of water resources between Bangladesh and India.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the rally was organized at the Government Mir Ismail Hossain College ground with the slogan ‘Save Teesta, Save the River’ and saw participation from a large number of people from Kurigram, Rajarhat, Ulipur, and Chilmari upazilas.



Kurigram District BNP Convener Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa presided over the rally, joined by Kurigram District BNP Senior Joint Convener and Educationist Shafiqul Islam Bebu, and Kurigram District BNP Member Secretary Sohel Hosnain Kaikobad who also addressed the gathering.



Speakers at the rally called for the urgent implementation of the Teesta Master Plan in a scientific manner to protect the Teesta River. They emphasized that as a common river, the Teesta Agreement must be made with India on the basis of fair share.



Additionally, they demanded the construction of reservoirs, the re-establishment of the river’s previous connections with its branches and tributaries, and the resumption of navigation to maintain the water flow in the Teesta River throughout the year.
